Shared note

Cynthia Dabb nee Goodall was born on 03 Jul 1917 in Sherwood St, Newton, Derbyshire. She emigrated to Canada at a young age, along with her parents Edith and (Samuel) Wilfred Goodall, her brother Derek, sisters Esme & Muriel. They left Liverpool, England, on 22 December 1928 and arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada on 30 December 1928. The name of the ship they travelled on was the "Baltic". They lived in the Natal, Michel and Elk Valley areas of British Columbia. In 1935, Cynthia's parents & siblings moved back to England after a seven year stay in Canada. Cynthia chose to stay in B.C. as she had met & married a man named Syd Weaver, with whom she had 4 children Joan, Irene, Bev & Leslie (Mike). Syd Weaver died in Feb 1943 in a mining accident, leaving Cynthia a young widow at age just 26 with 4 children. She and the children moved to Ladysmith, B.C. where she worked in McKays Bakery in town, where she met Bill Dabb, a master baker working in the store. Cynthia and her 4 children lived in the Stephens Block Apt. on 1st Avenue (where the Rexall Drugstore was later, in 1999). Cynthia and Bill eloped & got married in Port Alberni, B.C. Sept. 3, 1945. They resided all their married life at 233 Baden Powell Street, Ladysmith. Cynthia & Bill had 4 more children, Peter, Peggy, Muriel & Norman. She had 18 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. Cynthia was always an avid gardener, a seamstress, great cook & an excellent mother. Cynthia's other hobbies included playing bridge, golfing, knitting, crocheting & embroidery. Cynthia was a member of the Rebecca Lodge in town and was still an active Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 171 in her 90s. (As written by Muriel Carlson, her youngest daughter, around 2006).
Cynthia died 8 Dec 2017 at the age of 100 years, 5 months and 5 days.
