B: 9 Apr 1932, Portsmouth. ref: Apr-Jun 1932 Portsmouth 2b 760 Mother's name was Nancy Toesland. M: 24 Feb 1951, Derby, to Joseph Derek Goodall. D: 12 Jan 1997, Nanaimo. (From Carole Goodall, Nov 2011) Mum's Mother was born Nancy Toesland, I never heard her talk about family, but she did have a brother who lived about a block away. Nancy married George G****e, a red-headed Irishman who was in the merchant marine. Children of Nancy and George: Joan was born about a year or two before mum and I believe Nancy and George divorced after 5 or 6 years of marriage. I did meet him once when Mum had initiated contact and we visited. Mum and Joan, her sister, were sent to Chesterfield as evacuee's during the war and from time to time Nancy visited, with Charles Vickers in tow. They got married and there were no other children. I was told that Charles had been an orphan so there was no family connections on his side. Joan married Pat Moore, another Irishman and had two children Karen and Andrew. There was a divorce and another marriage, but no children resulted from the subsequent union. From 1939 census, it seems that Joyce was living with a family called Barber in Top Road, Chesterfield. |
