b 6 Apr 1827 at Stephen's Wifes, baptised 27 May 1827 at Chapelry of Garsdale, parents William Shepherd (deceased) and Barbara Dodd. Note that the baptism does not specify the year of birth, but it must have been 1827, as her father died 11 Sep 1826. Also, her age in the 1841 census says 14 (b1827), her marriage certificate in 1860 says aged 33 (1827) and her death certificate in 1872 says aged 45 (b1827), although her ages in 1851, 1861 and 1871 census were 23, 33 and 43 (b1828). So there is some doubt, but her father certainly died in 1826. NB The record says "in the parish of Sedbergh", but the actual extract comes from the Bishop's Transcripts of Garsdale, 207536/1-2, page 337. The extract also says that her abode was "Stephens": "Stephen's Wifes" and "Stephen's Farm" are just NW of West Mostard, about 3 miles to the south east of Sedbergh, and west of Garsdale itself (54.31534382173082, -2.4515861948634488).
