George Edmondson was born 17 May 1861 at Garsdale, W Riding Yorkshire. Garsdale was historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire, now it is part of Cumbria. Baptised 29 Aug 1861 at Garsdale (FHL 1849306/5 p742). In 1881 census, he is living in Peterborough, and working as a railway telegraph clerk. Subsequently, he moved to Derby, he gave his address as Derby when he married Maria Dudden 20 June 1887 at St Mary's, Bitton, Gloucestershire, about 7 miles east of Bristol. (Note that he wasn't married 26 Jun 1887 at St Mary's Redcliffe, as my father originally surmised). After marriage he lived at 3 (number later changed to 10) Rosehill St, Derby until 1904, when they moved to their final home of 41 Middleton St, Derby. He was employed as a Railway Telegraph Inspector at Derby. He died 11 Feb 1943 in Derby, and is buried with his wife Maria at Nottingham Rd Cemetery, Derby. No tombstone, but transcription on surrounding stone states: "In loving memory of my dear husband George Edmondson, at rest 11 February 1943 aged 81 years. Also his beloved wife Maria at rest 5 October 1947, aged 86 years". Grave on opposite side to main entrance, turn right, 3rd row from edge approx. 40 yards up. (Note from JPL: in 2019 I tried without success to find this gravestone). Probate 29 Mar 1943 to widow Maria (Dudden).
