Bessie Sherborne Coombs, also known as Betsey and Betty. Born 1824 at Nunney, Somerset, baptised 25 Dec 1824, parents James Hyatt Coombs (1801-1866) and Betty Sherborne (1799-1871) (second wife of James Hyatt, they married 17 Mar 1824 at Paulton). On baptism record father registered as James Henry Coombs, but this seems to be an error. Her 1851 marriage certificate specifies father as James Hyatt Coombs, her brother was Benjamin James Hyatt Coombs (bp 27 Sep 1835 at Bristol) and on his baptism the father is James Hyatt Coombs. Both Betty and Benjamin appear together on the 1841 census, and the 1861 census is explicit as James Hyatt Coombs. 1841 living at home with parents in Bristol. 1851 living with future grandfather-in-law Charles Dudden (aged 88) at Cameley, Somerset. Married by licence 2 Oct 1851 at St George, Brandon Hill, Bristol to William Henry Dudden, witnesses Sarah Lacey Coombs, Henry Payne Coombs, James Sherborne. 1861 census gives dob 1824 at Nunney, Somerset 1871 census gives dob 1828 at Frome, Somerset (3m Nunney) 1881 census (transcribed as Dudder) gives dob 1827 at Nunney, Somerset Died Oct-Dec 1889 at Keynsham.
