Born 27 Apr 1888 at 3 Rosehill St, Derby. The number was subsequently changed from 3 to 10: in fact the birth of my grandmother Bessie, who was born in 1890, was registered as 10 Rosehill St. Baptised 27 May 1888 at St Thomas, Derby. A school teacher, he obtained various qualifications, an external qualification in Science in 1907 from London University, a Physical Training certificate from St John's College Battersea in 1908, an Elementary School Teacher's Training qualification in 1908, an Arts degree in 1915. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts from London University in 1919, again as an external student. From Berlin University he obtained a German Language qualification in 1931. He married Maria Luigia Caprile 25 Sep 1919 in Voghera. She died in 1920. He then married Rita Nattino 1 Oct 1924 in Voghera and had 2 children, Carla Maria (Dinkie) b1925, and George (b1928). From when he arrived in Italy in 1917, he lived his whole life in Voghera, Italy, apart from internment during World War II. He died 17 Nov 1985, aged 97.
