Born 5 Jun 1812, baptised 30 Aug 1812 at Ashover.
Married Jane Oldfield 31 March 1834 at Ashover.
Died 3 Dec 1873 at Nottingham, buried in Ashover. He was a Tailor.
Some confusion concerning the children, the data is clear concerning Herbert (b27 Aug 1837); Abraham (b23 feb 1840 at Cromford); William (b1842, d 5 Mar 1842 at Lea); Sarah Ellen (b3 Oct 1847); Betty (b10 Mar 1854 at Clay Cross); Blanche (b1856 at North Wingfield).
There seems to be a daughter Harriet, apparently born around 1835, but no trace in Ashover births, a daughter Jane born 15 Feb 1835 at Dethick, while in the Ashover births there is a James b 15 Feb 1835 at Dethick, which must be a transcription error, writing James instead of Jane. There is also an Elizabeth (b 3 Dec1850) at Brampton, but no trace in subsequent censuses. On the other hand, there is a Jane Annie apparently born 1850 in Ashover, no trace in Mormons or Ancestry, but she is in subsequent censuses. Checked original PRs which show Jane b1835, no Harriet, no James. Next time, need to find birth of Elizabeth and Jane Annie.

There are also 2 "other" George Slacks, born around the same time, and there is some confusion between them and this George. The "decider" that this George is "ours" is based mainly on the fact that he had a child called Abraham in 1840, named after his grandfather who died in 1834. The rest of the evidence is circumstantial, but the other Georges do not have any of the family names.

George 2: b17 Aug 1812, bapt 2 Sep 1812 at Wirksworth, parents Daniel and Eleanor. He married a Frances between 1841 and 1851. In 1851 he was living in Sheffield then spent most of his future time as a pauper in various institutions.

George 3: b 1812 apparently in Ashover, but there is no trace of this birth. Most likely he was christened in a Baptist church somewhere in the region, perhaps Belper, being as in April 1839 he married Elizabeth Potter (b1816 in Wirksworth) at Belper Baptist Chruch. Ref: Belper Apr-Jun 19/365. He then moved to Derby, and lived in Green Lane and then Queen St. In 1850 he became a Medical Botanist and had a shop. He was also a Baptist preacher. He had a daughter Grace (b1840), and in 1841 his mother-in-law Grace Potter (then aged 70), was living with them. By 1851, he had other children George (b1845), Mary (b1850). His wife Elizabeth died Jan-Mar 1855 at Derby St Alkmund. In Jul-Sep 1861 (Derby 7b 576) he married Susannah Woolley (b1819, Derby) at St Mary Gate Baptist Church. Susannah died 28 Sept 1881 aged 62. Husband George died 14 Dec 1893 aged 81 at Derby. Probate was granted to grandchldren Mary Ann Hatfield and elizabeth Susannah Hatfield, £584. Buried in Nottingham Rd Cemeterey, Chaddesden. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=pv&GRid=129632929&PIpi=101252808
