Born 21 Jun 1873 at Primrose Terrace, Tibshelf, ref: Jul-Sep 1873, Mansfield 7b 55.
Primrose Terrace was a picturesque and evocative name which belies its location in the bottom pit yard. A small group of miners' houses built around 150 years ago but long since demolished, being unfit for modern habitation.

Married Leah Whittle in Elmton, Derbyshire, 3 Apr 1899; ref Apr-Jun 1899, Worksop 7b 63
Died 19 July 1958, Sutherland, New South Wales, Australia.

In 1881 census, birthplace given as Alfreton.
In 1891 census, birthplace given as Tibshelf.
In 1911 census, birthplace given as Tibshelf. He was living at 12 Poplar Terrace Mill Gate Bentley, near Doncaster, with wife Leah and children Elsie May (b1900) and Arthur Ernest (b1902). He is described as a Coal Miner (also in 1891 census).

There is no trace of him during the 1901 census, which is strange, as his daughter Elsie was born in 1900 in Cresswell (near Elmton) and his son Arthur Ernest in 1902 in Newton. So he should have been around in 1901, unless he and Leah had gone to Australia, returning in late 1901.
He and Leah did emigrate to Australia in 1922, together with children Elsie and Arthur, and Elsie's husband George Whitham. Thomas died in Sutherland, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, and Leah died in 1962. (JPL, 2013)

Below information concerning Thomas Goodall given by (Alice) Cynthia Goodall, daughter of his nephew Wilfred Samuel Goodall (MC 2006).

** My grandfather Joseph Goodall was the eldest of 4 brothers the others being Samuel, John(Jack) & Thomas.
These brothers were stone masons but as far as I know only Thomas built bridges, one of them in Newton, Derbyshire over the railway track (now a main highway) L.M.S.?
Samuel inherited the family farm, it should have been Joseph's, he being the eldest son. Sam was a road foreman or builder, relatives & his family ran the farm.
Jack & Joseph inherited the houses they lived in I think.
Thomas sailed to Austrailia where according to my father he helped build the famous Sydney bridge. (Maybe engineer in charge, foreman or whatever).
Sometime in the early 1920's I was introduced to him by my Grandma. To me he appeared to be a well dressed handsome man. My sisters, still in England may have a photo of him, there was one.
This is all I know of Thomas Goodall.
There was another Goodall family whose home was in St. Thomas Row. Tibshelf. This was demolished after the war. 50's or 60's. Two brothers, George & Jack worked on Uncle Sams' farm & married the two eldest daughters Bertha & Vera. I think they were 2nd cousins. Some of their sisters still live in Newton.
