b 13 May 1835 in Heather, parents Samuel and Elizabeth. He married Frances Johnson in 1856, after getting her pregnant. He then decided to beat her up more or less continuously, was convicted a number of times and spent some time in jail. He was committed to Leicestershire and Rutland Lunatic Asylum 2 March 1859, where he died 12 July 1864, aged 30. His sister Jane Bott was in attendance. Leicester Record Office microfilm DE3533/145 contains his admittance records to the asylum, while DE3533/189 contains his patient records (both attached here).
There is another couple, James and Jane Bott, also with a child called George born in1860, but this James was still alive in the 1871 census, so this James and this Jane are not "ours".
