In 1871, he was living with his recently widowed mother Elizabeth (father died 1870), and siblings Joseph (b Apr-Jun 1856); Robert (b Jan-Mar 1858); John Thomas (b Jan-Mar 1860); Alfred (b Apr-Jun 1862); Horatio (b Oct-Dec 1864) and his aunt Ellen Lager (b1846). His brother Walter (b Jan-Mar 1867) was staying with grandparents John and Sarah Lager. In 1881, his mother has remarried to William Chamberlain (b1830), and he is living with brothers Horatio (b1864) and Walter (b1867), and step-brother Thomas Chamberlain (b1877). In 1891, he is living with mother, step-father, brothers Alfred, Horatio, Walter and step-briother Thomas Chamberlain. Later that year, 29 Dec 1891, he married Lizzie Reed at Whitwick. They had 3 children, Clarie Elizabeth (b Oct-Dec 1893), John Alfred (b1896) and Alfred (b1898, d1903). He died Oct-Dec 1900, aged 31.
