Johnson Genealogy

Elizabeth was baptized on 24 Jul 1831 at Breedon-on-the-Hill. In the baptism extract her abode is given as Newbold, so presumably she was born there. In the 1851 census return, her place of birth is given as Newbold, she was living with her parents Joseph and Sarah, and was working as a helper at Lount Pottery.

She had an illegitimate child, Laban, b1858. According to W J Lomas, writing in 1982, the father was a certain Harvey (most likely Isaac Harvey) who was foreman at the pottery works where Elizabeth worked.

In the 1861 census return, her place of birth is again given as Newbold, and she was living with her parents Joseph and Sarah, and her son Laban. On 11 Jun 1867, she married James Richards at Breedon.

In the 1871 census, she is living in Griffydam (Worthington) with husband James Richards, plus children Laban and Agnes. Place of birth of both Elizabeth and James given as Worthington.

On 1881 census, she and James and children Laban, Agnes and Harriett are living in Tibshelf. Place of birth of both Elizabeth and James now given again as Newbold. Interesting that she moved to Tibshelf, where her nephew Thomas Johnson (b1852) was also living.

By 1891, now a widow, she has returned to Worthington, and is living with her unmarried brother John Johnson b1835. Her place of birth is given as Worthington. In 1901 she has moved back to Tibshelf and is living with daughter Agnes and husband John Ragan.

Not sure what happened to her afterwards, there are no "obvious" deaths before the 1911 census, where she is not to be found. She could have married again, but finding a trace of this could be quite complicated.
