Shared note

Born at 26 Barrow St, Derby, 13 Jun 1888.
Barrow St no longer exists, it was located between the modern Osmanton Road and London Road, and Bateman St and Bloomfield Close.
Baptised 4 Jul 1888 at St Andrews, which was demolished in 1971, but was located on London Road, just in front of Hulland St, so very close to Barrow St.
In the 1891 census, the family has moved to 54 Princes St, close to 82 Pear Tree St, where they moved in 1895, and where Harry lived nearly all his life. In fact, I remember my grandfather Harry saying that he had lived 66 years in Pear Tree St when he left it in 1961.
He married Bessie Edmondson 17 June 1914 at St Thomas's Church, Derby.
2 children, Walter John b 10 Mar 1920, Bessie (Bep) b 16 Feb 1916.
Worked for 50 years as a Grocery Assistant at The Derby Cooperative Society, mainly in Park Street.
He possessed a very good tenor voice and was a leading singer in various Church choirs, mainly St James', Dairy House Road, Derby. His main songs were "Take a pair of sparking eyes", "For You Alone", "Nirvana". A recording of him singing "For You Alone" in 1961 is available.
Died at Derbyshire Royal Infirmary 30 Oct 1973, probate 28 Nov 1973 at Nottingham.
Cremated at Markeaton Crematorium, Derby, 5 November 1973.
