Shared note

A series of inconsistencies in her data. Her marriage certificate to Jesse Lomas in 1888 says she was 25, so born 1862/1863. The census indications are that she was from Glenfield, Leicestershire. The 1891 census says she was born in 1864, while, bizarrely, the 1911 census says 1870. The 1939 census gives her date of birth as 26 Oct 1862. Her death certificate indicates her year of birth as 1862.

It has proved impossible to reconcile these dates. Assuming that the 1939 census is correct, there should be a birth of an Elizabeth Wood 4Q1862 or max 1Q1863. The only person found was a Mary Elizabeth Wood b4Q1862, registered at Blaby (so the right area for Glenfield), with parents Henry Wood and Maria Burdett. There is no trace of them ever living in Glenfield, they were from Huncote, some 7 miles south of Glenfield, and the father's name "Henry" is inconsistent with Elizabeth's marriage certificate, which gives her father's names as "George".

If we look, instead, for births in Glenfield, the only candidate is an Emma Elizabeth Wood, b3Q1864, baptised 18 Sep 1864 at Glenfield, parents George Wood and Ann Varnam. So the father's name is correct, and it looks like both her marriage certificate, the 1939 census and her death certificate have got the dates wrong.

Concluding, I think she has to be the Emma Elizabeth Wood b3Q1864 and baptised 18 Sep 1864 at Glenfield.

The family had moved to Woodville, Derbyshire (near Swadlincote and Church Gresley) by the time of the 1871 census.
In 1881 she was working in Donisthorpe, about 4 miles south of Woodville (half of Donisthorpe is in Derbyshire, half in Leicestershire).
She had an illegitimate child George Henry Wood 30 May 1886 at Woodville.
She then married Jesse Lomas 6 Aug 1888 at Woodville, father George Wood, labourer, Henry Wood witness (brother Harry).
Her child George Henry never seems to have lived with Elizabeth and Jesse, so presumably he wasn't Jesse's child.
