Although her marriage certificate says she was born in 1834, I am fairly sure now that she was born in 1829 at Cheadle. In 1841 she was living in Bilston, Wolverhampton with her father George Bettany b1804 at Dilhorne, Staffs near Cheadle, a Brick Maker, her mother Sarah b Cheadle Staffs, and a load of siblings: Thomas b1826 b Manchester; Mary b1831 (Hannah Maria?), George b1834 b Dilhorne, Joseph b1836 b Dilhorne, Sarah Agnes b 3Q1838 b Dilhorne reg Cheadle mother Robinson. In 1851 Elizabeth was living at Upper Tean as a servant. In 1861 with her husband William Clark, she was living in Walsall. Elizabeth died 4Q1868 at Walsall aged 40, buried 2 Nov 1868 at Bloxwich. For Elizabeth's birth we have a complete blank, there are lots of Bettanys in the area around Cheadle but the family don't seem to have registered any births with the local church. There is even an Elizabeth Bettany bp 26 Oct 1834 at Dilhorne nr Cheadle, but her parents were John and Helen.
