After much deliberation, now convinced after discussions with Catherine Stewart, that Richard Cuttell died as a two year old in 1722, and that the priest mistakenly wrote the name Thomas instead of Richard. The confusion was caused by Richard's father's death just two weeks earlier, also called Thomas Cuttell (agricola). Supporting evidence is the lack of a death or marriage or any other data on Richard subsequent to this date, together with the lack of a suitable Thomas Cuttell to marry in 1732 to Elizabeth Colton. The only possible Thomas who could have died in 1722 as recorded by the priest was Thomas b1710 in Hayton, and if he died in 1722 then there was no-one to be married in 1732, and start the whole Cuttell dynasty from which we are descended.
Further supporting evidence are the names of the children of Thomas and Elizabeth, which fit in with Thomas effectively being part of the family of Thomas Cuttell (agricola) and Elizabeth Hopkinson (spinster - to differentiate her from the Elizabeth Hopkinson - widow, a contemporary).
