Miles Mason 1565-1618, 9th great grandfather

m about 1588 to Mellory, if she was the mother of all the children. There could have been a first marriage to someone else.

The Parish Registers of Dent, Yorkshire start in the year 1611. The only children of Miles Mason and Mellory that can be identified in these registers are Elizabeth bp 22 Nov 1613 and George bp 29 Dec 1616. Then Miles himself dies and is buried 15 Apr 1618.

From his Will, however, we see that he had a total of 7 children living in 1618. He also clarified that his eldest son, Thomas, was "of age", so over 21. His date of birth can thus be estimated at about 1595, with the marriage of Miles and Mellory in 1594. If we assume Mellory was at least 21, then we can place her birth at around 1568. This also assumes that this wasn't a second marriage for Miles: in that case, son Thomas (and some of the other children) could have had a different mother, and Mellory could have been born later.

Again, from the Will, he lists his daughters as Alice, Mabel, Jane and Elizabeth. This implies that their births were in this order, so perhaps 1598, 1601, 1604 for Alice, Mabel and Jane, while we know that Elizabeth was born in 1613. Miles also tells us that his younger sons, Anthony and George, were under age 21. Well, we knew about George (b1616), so most likely Anthony was born around 1610. He died in 1684, which would make him aged 74, a good age for that time.

There were 2 Miles Mason having children at the time, the names in this will are clearly those of this Miles Mason. The death of a Jane Mason 26 May 1614 I think must be the other Miles Mason, as Jane is mentioned in will of our Miles Mason in 1618.
