The parents of "our" William Astle b1825 were certainly called William and Elizabeth Astle, as this can be seen from the baptism records of Benjamin b1821, Edward b1823 and William b1825. I have now concluded though that they are not the William Astle and Elizabeth Hopewell who married at Wilne 9 Dec 1821. This because firstly there does not seem to be any link between our Astle family of Aston and the Astles of Wilne. Note that I have full family history files for the Astles of Wilne, given to me by Sandra Stock, a Wilne-based Astle researcher, in July 2014. Secondly, because Benjamin was baptised 22 Jul 1821 and his parents are given as William and Elizabeth Astle, whereas the Wilne marriage was not until Dec 1821. Even if born out of wedlock, it is unlikely that the priest would record the child as being the son of a couple not yet married. |
