Born 19 Jan 1874 in Roade, Northants, baptised 8 Mar 1874 in Roade. Parents John Chapman and Elizabeth.
In 1891 census living with parents in Hackleton, Northants.
Between 1891 and 1894, he and his friend William Bennett of Piddington, Northants (half a mile from Hackleton) moved to Tibshelf, presumably to look for jobs as miners.
On 14 May 1894 he married Fanny Johnson in Tibshelf, while in 1895 William Bennett married Fanny's sister Lillie.
In 1901 census living in Tibshelf with wife Fanny, plus children George (b23 Jul 1894), Lucy (b1896), John (b1898). Two boarders at his home were John Abrahams and Felix Henry Abrahams, also from Northants. John Abrahams was the same age as George Chapman, so was probably a friend. His younger brother Felix Henry Abrahams married Fanny's sister Sarah in 1903.
His wife Fanny died in 1902.
In 1911 census, living in Tibshelf with children George (b1894), Lucy (b1896), John (b1898), and also William Leonard Chapman (b 3Q 1906, ref: Mansfield 7B 99). This is inconsistent with wife Fanny having died in 1902, unless he married again and was widowed again.
Died 2 Feb 1946 at Mansfield Woodhouse, probate to sons John (b1898) and William Leonard (b1906).
