Thomas Lummas was baptised 1 Jun 1673 at Sudborough, Northants, parents Thomas and Dinah. He was married twice, first to Elizabeth probably Gray, with whom he had John Lummas in 1696, then, after Elizabeth died in 1700, he married again in 1712 to Eliza Meacock. For marriage to Elizabeth Gray, findmypast 7566309 #322; FHL BT 421597 #50 at Stone, Staffs (Not too sure about this, the name reads "Thomas Lawnes" and Stone is a long way away). For marriage to Eliza Meacock, Mormon fiche 6126882 Brockhall, and 1966115/2 Bishops Transcripts. It was by finding the marriage of this Thomas Lummas and Eliza Meacock at Brockhall, that I discovered that the Lummas's came from Great Brington. This was specified in the marriage certificate of Thomas. In fact the certificate says that both Thomas and Eliza were from Brington. From the marriage license to Eliza, the name is given as "Lumas", and Thomas, who signed "X", was accompanied by Richard Lummas, the blacksmith, who signed his signature. Richard was most likely his brother (born 1678). Thomas is described as a "widower". In Thomas's will, he leaves half a guinea to John, the son he had with Elizabeth in 1696, and the rest of his estate to Eliza, his second wife. In the will, John is described as being from Creton, some 7 miles north-east of Brington. Thomas's death is reported in 1966106/9 (Bishops) and 6126864 Thomas's occupation was that of Brewer at Althorp, or labourer. Possible first marriage: Thomas Lummas m 19 Jun 1695 to Elizabeth Gray at Stone St Michael (70m NW), fndmypast 7566309 #322, 421597 #50 |
