Name at baptism Selina, after 1851 she was always known as Ena. m 9 Apr 1855 at Breedon to Thomas Waterfield, name transcribed incorrectly by priest as Emma. 10 children, 8 of whom survived until at least 1911. As you say, she seemed to disappear after that, but in the end, after a number of false starts, I found her. She married 9 Apr 1855 aged 23 (b1832) at Breedon to Thomas Waterfield (b1833), her father was Joseph Johnson, a collier. The name on her marriage certificate was Emma Johnson, but I am sure it was her. In 1861 (name transcribed as "Teen") she was living with husband and 3 children Ann, Eliza and Thomas in Staunton Harold, right next to Lount where she was born. Not for nothing is our tree called "Johnson of Staunton Harold"!! In 1871 (name transcribed as "Ener") she was still in Staunton Harold, with 5 children. If you check the mother's name on the birth certificates at the GRO, it is Johnson, so we are sure it was her. Ena died in 1918 and Thomas in 1915. They lived all their lives at Lount - attached a photo of the Stewards Cottage at Lount, apparently the residence of John Johnson, murdered in 1760 by Earl Ferrers, the last Earl to be hung in England for his crimes! We have been unable to prove that John Johnson was a relative of ours, even though all the Johnsons were from Lount, Worthington, Staunton, Griffydam, Breedon and surrounding area in NW Leicestershire.

Joseph and Sarah did have a daughter called (variously):

Selina (when baptised 25 Aug 1833);
Serena in the 1841 census;
Ena in the 1851 census.

As you say, she seemed to disappear after that, but in the end, after a number of false starts, I found her.
She married 9 Apr 1855 aged 23 (b1832) at Breedon to Thomas Waterfield (b1833), her father was Joseph Johnson, a collier. The name on her marriage certificate was Emma Johnson, but I am sure it was her.

In 1861 (name transcribed as "Teen") she was living with husband and 3 children Ann, Eliza and Thomas in Staunton Harold, right next to Lount where she was born. Not for nothing is our tree called "Johnson of Staunton Harold"!!

In 1871 (name transcribed as "Ener") she was still in Staunton Harold, with 5 children. If you check the mother's name on the birth certificates at the GRO, it is Johnson, so we are sure it was her.

So, Selina, Serna, Ena, Emma, Teen and Ener.
