Lomas Genealogy

Thomas Buller was born at Great Bourton, Oxfordshire and baptised 2 Dec 1787 at Cropredy, Oxfordshire. Great Bourton is about 3 miles east of Shotteswell, where Thomas and wife Sarah settled and had all their children.

Married 30 Nov 1810 at Lutterworth, Leicestershire (30m from Shotteswell) to Sarah Devereaux. Do not know why he found a wife who lived so far away.

It was quite difficult to find place and date of birth, and date of death.
He lived all his life in Shotteswell, Warwicks, but in Shotteswell from 1841 to 1861 there were 2 Thomas Bullers of a similar age. The 1851 census return had one of them born in Shotteswell, but one was born in Great Bourton, some 3 miles away, across the border in Oxfordshire (not Northants as the census said). The one born in Great Bourton was living with his daughter Eliza (b1828) and grand-daughter Sarah Ann (b1849), so that indicates that this Thomas Buller was born in Great Bourton, and baptised 2 Dec 1787. The other Thomas Buller was born in Shotteswell and baptised 1 May 1785, parents Prince Buller and Joyce Collicot. He did not marry. His brother John's son Prince Buller (b1821) was likely the father of Thomas's daughter Eliza's child Sarah Ann Buller.

Next we have to decide which Thomas Buller died in 1858 and which in 1864. Taking into account the previous family data, it seems clear that the Thomas who died in 1858 was "our" Thomas, while the unmarried Thomas died in 1864.

In 1841, living in Shotteswell (aged 53 so b1788 Warwicks) with wife Sarah (aged 49 b1792 not born Warwicks) and children Edward (aged 15 b1826) and Elizabeth (aged 9 b1831).

In 1851, living in Shotteswell (aged 55 so b1796 at Gt Bourton Oxon/Northants 3m Shotteswell), widower, with child Eliza Buller (aged 22 b1828) and granddaughter Sarah Ann (aged 1 b1849). Possible father of Sarah Ann could be Prince Buller, son of John Buller (1799-1883) and Elizabeth French (1798-1851), a separate strain of Bullers, descended from Prince Buller (1754-1817) and Joyce Collicot (1755-1817) who married 5 Nov 1775 at Shotteswell.
Died 5 Oct 1858 at Shotteswell (aged 73 so b1785), struck with paralysis 4 Oct 1858, buried 8 Oct 1858, present at the death Fanny Buller (wife of his son William Buller).

The other Thomas Buller, who did not marry, was baptised 1 May 1785 Shotteswell, parents Prince Buller and Joyce Collicot.
In 1841 (aged 55 so b1786), living with Amos Washbrook (aged 27 b1813).
In 1851 (aged 66 so b1785 Shotteswell), unmarried, living with Ann Norton (widow, aged 67, b1784).
In 1861, (aged 77 so b1784 Shotteswell), unmarried.
Died 3 Dec 1864 (aged 79 b1785 according to burial or 83 b1781 according to GRO).
