Mother's maiden name not given in GRO, don't really understand this, except that they weren't married. Why not give baby surname of SHAW? Baby baptised 8 Jan 1860 at Normanton St Giles, Derby. In 1861 census, not with parents, but registered with another family as "Nurse Girl". Phoebe Shaw married John Newton 2 Feb 1860 at St Peter Derby. In 1861, Phoebe and John Newton were living in Derby. Other children: Lived next door to daughter Mary Anne and her husband Thomas William Goodall in 1891 and 1901 census returns. Death 21 Jan 1914 at Derby, probate to son Harry Newton 31 Jan 1914 at Derby. Name on probate is Phoebe Lydia Newton: where did this name Lydia come from? |
